How do I know how much compost I need?

For areas between 30–50 sqm:
- Option A (on grass): 0.5 cubic is sufficient if compost is spread on top of the grass.
- Option B (on soil): 1 cubic is required if compost is spread on the soil before laying new grass.

For areas larger than 50 sqm, multiply accordingly.
Example: 100 sqm → Option A: 1 cubic, Option B: 2 cubics.

If you want compost applied both on the soil before installation and on the grass afterward, choose Option B.

What is the difference between LM and Kikuyu Grass, and which is better?

🌱 LM Grass (Berea Grass / Durban Grass)

Characteristics:

  • Shade Tolerance: Excellent – one of the best for shady areas.
  • Texture: Softer, broader leaves; a lush, carpet-like look.
  • Water Needs: Moderate; survives on less water than Kikuyu.
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate (less mowing required).
  • Durability: Not as tough under heavy foot traffic compared to Kikuyu.
  • Maintenance: Low – less mowing and fertilizer needed.
  • Color: Deep green in shaded and semi-shaded areas.

Best For:
Gardens with lots of trees, shady yards, landscaped areas where a softer, low-maintenance lawn is preferred.

🌱 Kikuyu Grass

Characteristics:

  • Shade Tolerance: Poor – prefers full sun (minimum 6 hours of sun daily).
  • Texture: Coarser leaves, light green.
  • Water Needs: High – needs regular watering in hot months.
  • Growth Rate: Very fast (needs frequent mowing).
  • Durability: Extremely hardy and self-repairs quickly under heavy foot traffic.
  • Maintenance: High – grows aggressively and can invade flowerbeds.
  • Color: Bright green, especially in sunny areas.

Best For:
Play areas, sports fields, large open sunny gardens, areas with heavy foot traffic (kids, pets).

✅ Which is Better?

It depends on your lawn’s environment and usage:

  • 🌳 Shady garden → LM Grass (thrives in shade, low maintenance).
  • 🌞 Sunny, active garden (kids/pets) → Kikuyu Grass (hardy, self-repairing).
  • 💧 Water restrictions → LM Grass (less thirsty).
  • âš½ Sports field/playground → Kikuyu Grass (very tough).

🔥 Dry Firewood

What types of firewood do you sell?

We offer Sekelbos, Black Wattle, and Blue Gum.

Which firewood is best for indoor combustion?

#1 Best → Sekelbos 🌟 (clean, long burn, safe for closed combustion).

#2 Good Option → Black Wattle (affordable, reliable, steady burn).

#3 Use with Caution → Blue Gum (great for kindling or quick fires but not ideal as main fuel for indoor stoves/fireplaces due to faster burn and potential creosote buildup).

Our Recommendation:
For indoor closed-combustion fireplaces, use Sekelbos as your main firewood, with Blue Gum for kindling and Black Wattle as a cost-effective mix.

How long do you take to deliver firewood?

We usually deliver within 2–3 days. You can also request a preferred delivery date and time in the Order Notes at checkout.

Sekelbos: Dense hardwood, long burn, clean flame, aromatic, best for closed stoves and braais.

Black Wattle: Medium-density hardwood, steady burn, affordable, good general-purpose wood.

Blue Gum (Eucalyptus): Burns hot and fast, great for kindling, but less ideal as the main fuel indoors due to faster burn rate and possible creosote.
